BUENA VISTA

Curichi Cuajo Municipal Reserve

The Curichi Cuajo, or Heron Pool, is a Municipal Reserve located a mere 1.5 km from the Buena Vista plaza. Accessible year-round, its bird watching tower overlooks a wetlands area ideal for morning or evening bird watching or photography.
Additionally, a 1.2 km trail runs through the secondary forest, allowing for wildlife viewing and a preview of what one could expect on a trip to Amboró National Park. A visit to the Curichi Cuajo is perfect in combination with other activities around Buena Vista for a full-day of nature observation or as a stand-alone activity when in town for other reasons.

El Cafetal

El Cafetal, a coffee plantation no longer under cultivation, is the ideal setting for the birder who wants to see forest species without risking life and limb to reach the forest. Located 5 km from Buena Vista, the former plantation strides a community road with little-to-no traffic. In the dry season, it is possible to drive all the way to the Surutu River for promising birding with little exertion. In the rainy season, an adventure is possible if armed with rain boots and the right attitude! The birds seen here are spectacular, especially taking into account how close they are to civilization!

Bosque de Jose

El Bosque de Jose is a private reserve and EcoLodge 3 km outside of Buena Vista. Offering a variety of trails, wildlife viewing is a given in this half day-minimum tour. But any hike here has the special touch of a taste of homemade chocolate and coffee, both grown and processed on location! The owner generally has a collection of rescue animals  around, and a variety of experiences can be arranged.

"The whole group was satisfied with you excellent services. Many thanks!"
